BMX Jump Track Facilities Review
Trails
The City of Mitcham BMX Jump Track Review provides a comprehensive assessment of existing facilities and identifies opportunities to better meet growing community demand for wheeled recreation. With four established BMX jump tracks across the municipality, the project responds to strong usage, increasing requests for new facilities, and the presence of informal, user-built jumps—highlighting gaps in provision.
The review involved site assessments, analysis of participation trends, and extensive community engagement, including surveys and on-site consultation. Findings confirm that BMX and cycling activities play an important role in supporting physical activity, youth engagement, and community wellbeing, particularly among children and young people who represent a significant proportion of the local population.
A key focus of the project is identifying gaps in the current network, particularly in northern and central areas of the City of Mitcham where access to formal facilities is limited. The study also highlights opportunities to enhance existing sites through improved maintenance, expanded features catering to a wider range of skill levels, and the provision of supporting infrastructure such as seating, shelter, and amenities.
The report provides clear recommendations to guide future investment, including potential new sites, upgrades to existing facilities, and a more strategic approach to planning BMX and jump track infrastructure. Together, this establishes a roadmap to deliver a more equitable, accessible, and high-quality network of BMX facilities across the City of Mitcham.
