Great Blue Mountains Trail: Upper Mountains Section Feasibility Assessment

Feasibility & Needs Assessment, Trails

The NSW Government, Sydney Regional Recreation Trails Framework listed the Great Blue Mountains Trail as a Priority 1 project.

The Upper Mountain Component required the identification, evaluation, assessment and provision of the;

  • Physical, financial and technical feasibility of the trail
  • Various proposed routes
  • Key management options
  • Rail implementation plan

The feasibility assessment reported on the upgrade and development of this trail and determined the feasibility of establishing a regional level cycling and walking trail from Leura Mall through Katoomba, Medlow Bath, Blackheath, Mountain Victoria to Mount York passing major attractions such as the Three Sisters, Scenic World and Govett’s Leap.

The Great Blue Mountains Trail will provide a variety of pedestrian and cyclist opportunities which travel through the scenic natural areas and heritage townships of the Blue Mountains.

“Blue Mountains City Council engaged Tredwell Management to undertake a feasibility assessment for the Great Blue Mountains Trail. I would have no hesitation in recommending Tredwell Management and their team. I have found them to be outstanding in all areas and found them to be very professional and easy to work with at all times. Our project was delivered on time and budget. The Tredwell team continually provided comment/input into how we could develop our brief to get a better outcome which was reflected in our final documents.”
