Boyagin Rock Trail Master Plan

Trails

Boyagin Rock is a nature reserve managed by the Department of Parks and Wildlife, situated within the Shire of Pingelly, approximately 25 kms to the west of Pingelly township. The reserve provides a refuge for a variety of wildlife including numbats, goannas, echidnas and Tammar wallabies and the “Rock” has significant cultural and spiritual meaning to the local Noongar Peoples.

The project involved the development of a Trail Master Plan for an Aboriginal “Dream Time” walk trail around the perimeter of Boyagin Rock, investigating the feasibility of such a proposal whilst continually gauging the in-principle support for the project from the local Noongar Peoples.
Key components of the project included:

  • On-ground assessment of trail route
  • Indigenous consultation
  • Trail theme development
  • Mapping
  • Cost estimates
  • Implementation plan
  • Management plan
  • Funding opportunities

“The Pingelly Tourism Group contracted Tredwell Management to assist in the compilation of a Master Plan for a “Dreamtime Walk Trail” around Boyagin Rock located some 25 kms north of the Pingelly townsite. This was a complex process as the rock structure itself is of significant spiritual value to the Aboriginal peoples. The land itself is a nature reserve managed by the Department for Parks and Wildlife.
It was a pleasure working with Neil and his team from Tredwell Management. They showed great patience in the consultation and information gathering processes and produced a first class document which we can now use to progress the project toward formulation of an implementation plan. We would recommend Tredwell Management to any project which requires expert advice in planning walk trails.”
