Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Strategic Plan

Current, Trails

The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT) is Australia’s longest rail trail and connects many unique townships and landscapes throughout the Brisbane Valley from Wulkuraka to Yarraman. There has been significant recent investment in infrastructure for the rail trail to create a longer distance experience for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. There is now a great opportunity to capitalise on this investment and to generate significant benefits to local communities located along and near the rail trail.  The Department of Transport and Main Roads have engaged Tredwell Management Services to deliver this trail planning project.

Project Aim
The aim of this project is to produce a 5-year Strategic Plan for the BVRT that provides a blueprint for the future development and management of the rail trail with a focus on identifying tourism and marketing initiatives, and will include:

  • Product / experience audit on related tourism infrastructure and tourism businesses
  • Competitor analysis including comparisons with similar trails domestically and internationally
  • Gap analysis and opportunities for capital improvements
  • Marketing & promotion opportunities focusing on key markets
  • Accessibility and connections from major centres including private and public transport options
  • Recommended governance framework for ongoing management
