BMX Jump Track Facilities Review

Current

The City of Mitcham identified significant community use at their four BMX Jump Track assets and periodically receives inquiries for further development and new tracks in particular locations. In addition, they observed  younger riders in suburbs across the city building their own jumps in Council reserves and lane ways which may be an indication that the current tracks are not meeting community demand.

This review and recommendations report is designed to help Council understand:

  • the current levels of service provided by the four BMX Track Jump facilities
  • the level of service the community want
  • potential areas to invest or further develop across the City of Mitcham.

This review will inform future recreation planning for high-quality BMX / Jump tracks for a range of ages and skill levels across the City of Mitcham area.

A number of engagement activities were conducted to engage with riders and local residents including an online community survey drop-in sessions/listening posts which were conducted at each of the four City of Mitcham facilities, and an online community survey.

For the four existing BMX Jump Track facility sites an issues and opportunities plan was prepared.  These plans include issues and challenges that need to be overcome at the sites as well as opportunities to enhance the sites for both riders and the general community, including nearby residents.

For the identified gaps in provision, a series of potential sites were identified based on factors such as size, shape, terrain, compatible adjoining land uses and limited impact on existing site uses and adjoining land uses.
