South Australian Athletics Track & Field Facilities Master Plan

Master Planning

The project goal was to develop a master plan for track and field facilities in metropolitan Adelaide and regional South Australia to facilitate greater access to quality track and field training and competition venues by upgrading existing facilities or constructing new ones.

The study incorporated extensive consultation with stakeholders and identified particular characteristics for a new synthetic track and field facility. These included a high quality, high profile, well planned site that is accessible to public transport, offers year round availability and on-site parking.

Numerous sites were considered during the process with potential sites rated against a set of criteria including physical site conditions, security and safety, access and transport and alignment with Strategic and Land Use Planning.

The Study proposed that the strategic direction for athletics facilities in South Australia should be based on a hierarchy of provision, with facilities catering for State/ National, Regional, District and Local levels.
