Camden Playspace Strategy

Current

The principal objective of Playspace Strategy is to understand play in Camden and to develop a key strategic document to guide the planning, development, and management of playspaces and supporting infrastructure in the Camden LGA to 2036 to align with Councils Community Strategic Plan and to ensure Camden residents and visitors have access to high quality, diverse and inclusive play experiences now and for the future.

The strategy will consider Council’s 129 sites with playspaces and 2 splash parks in the public domain. The strategy will cover all components of the play experience for children, young people, and adults. Consideration will be given to ability based, nature-based, cognitive, imaginative, physical development, graduated risk, and social development within the context of play.

The strategy will assist Council in planning for playspaces in the Camden LGA across the whole lifecycle, identifying gaps in provision, and requirements for ongoing maintenance, renewal, and replacement. It will consider how play is a fundamental part of life, and how playspaces in Camden can embrace elements that are fundamental to children’s health and wellbeing, such as balancing challenge and providing opportunities for risk-taking, as well as fostering connections between children and their community.
